What is SSD and why you should upgrade?
What is Solid State Drives (SSD) and why you should upgrade?
Hard drives was introduced by IBM in 1956 and has been in use since the early days of computers. Hard drives are traditionally mechanical devices that contains a motor, magnetic platers and reading/writing heads. With the continuous progress in newer and faster digital electronics, other coordinating major components in the computer namely the CPU, RAM and GPU, the traditional superseded mechanical technologies used in traditional hard disk are no longer fit for the purpose.
HDDs are the most common performance bottlenecks on most computers.
The primary characteristics of an HDD are its capacity and performance.
Solid State Drive (SSD)
Solid-State Drive (SSD) is similar to hard disk; it’s a data storage device but the major difference is that it uses Solid-State Memory (electronics devices) to store data. SSDs have the same purpose as conventional mechanical hard drives. SSDs don’t have moving parts making it more advantageous over HDDs.
SSD advantages over HDD
- Considerably Faster Data Transfer – Up to 15x Faster
- Longer Mean Time to Failures
- Lower Power Consumptions
- Smaller in Size
- Faster Seek and Lower Latency
- Shock Resistant
- Less Noise
- No Heating and Vibration
If you would like to improve you system performance significantly – upgrade to SSD storage.
SSDs are; without a shadow of doubt, worth every penny on the basis that the performance improvement is so tremendous.
